No. You need to use a stretch knit fabric for this pattern. It is designed with negative ease and will not fit unless.

Would that work, even though the pattern is for knits? I’m quite small on top.

Comment on Trousers Fit-along #2: Crotch curves and getting ready for tissue fitting by Anne Elliot http://blog.mariadenmark.com/?p=1536#comment-120620 Mon, 31 Mar 2014 11:28:52 +0000 http://blog.mariadenmark.com/?p=1536#comment-120620 Having just tested a jogging pant pattern in a super-stretch merino knit remnant, I struggled with my usual diagonal lines radiating from my crotch at the back. It was an Internet search for crotch alterations that led me to this fabulous blog – to sign up and to buy a pattern, the Laura Lounge Trousers.

I happened to have a flexible ruler and had experimented a little until I now have some actual “proof” that this is a serious option (the Fitting and Pattern Alteration: A Multi-Method book is on its way to me (terrific library) with more info).

I would have thought that in such stretchy fabric as the one I just used used, my crotch alterations would make them near perfect. Not so! My issue is actually that I have a curve just as the one you have drawn here, Maria (and dipping a little below the crotch line, too).

I am now wondering if intuition is enough for me to apply my new “body crotch curve” that I have just drawn to stretch fabric, my projects being in stretch velour, and a second pair in very stretchy Merino wool. I imagine I would probably not need as pronounced a curve as intended for woven fabrics. Yes? The second important issue is to add enough fabric to the side seam to experiment with. Any comments?

I have been working on fit for a couple years and trying to figure out what additional adjustment(s) I need & your photo helped me realize this might be one of my problems too! I’m definitely going to try this on my next project & see if it helps – thanks so much!! :)

Comment on How to make your clothes look high street cool #2 by mariadenmark http://blog.mariadenmark.com/?p=2114#comment-110751 Tue, 18 Mar 2014 06:55:32 +0000 http://blog.mariadenmark.com/?p=2114#comment-110751 Hi Jen!
It washes well. My directions says to wash it at 40 degrees C, which is the ususal lukewarm program I use for clothes. No dryer, though, that would probably ruin it…

I would love to do this with my daughter. One question: does it wash well? Or are there special washing directions? Is it safe to put in the dryer?
Thank you!
Jen
