I have no pictures

I really don’t. Every day this week (not true, because I was away for two of them, but anyway..) I have been trying to get some good pictures of something sewing related.

But no luck.. It’s so dark all the time. Even today, when I spend all day at the computer, I checked from time to time to see how the lighting was. No luck.

So I have no new pictures. I can’t show you how to pin fit your trousers properly. I can’t make my new header (need some artistic needle and thread works – and am not  prepared to pay for it from a photo bank, yet…) and I can’t show you the piles of fleece in lovely spring colours (because I live in a place where summer and fleece fabric actually goes together, you know) I’m using for samples for my classes that are starting next week.

I’m also working on some new designs – both for the pattern line and for other uses (so here it would be nice with pictures of my pencils, my lousy sketches and maybe a blurry pic of the design wall with spring coloured fabric) – and then there is all the end-of-year tax work. Balancing the books, labelling all the little pieces of paper, printing whatever has been kept online (so stupid that I have to print it) and placing of everything in binders.

And that’s pretty much what I did this week…. How was your week?

P.S. I just realized – I need to blog about how my taking the Seamless Pledge is working out.
I have now been banned (by myself) from buying RTW clothes, bags and shoes for two months. It’s still going great. I have been tempted by shoes, but have not bought them. I made my Christmas Dress and wore my drape tops for any other holiday parties and didn’t need anything else.
I have a bit of a challenge for January though, as I am going to be Sofie’s godmother and carry her at the baptism, and I need to work out an outfit for that. Am thinking about making the “leather” pencil skirt I’ve been talking about and pairing it with a light coloured drape top (maybe w sleeves) and heeled boots… Opinions?

We interrupt this program… A Catching Up Post

:-) Just a bunch of small admin notes….

 1. I’ve revised the schedule for the trouser fit-n-sew-along. Are anyone following along? Are you getting work done on your trousers? Tell me about it!

2. It has been a month since I took the Seamless Pledge. No problems – I’m doing fine (but might have been shopping more fabric). I needed a party/going out top, and made one. Then needed a winter dress and made one. No problem. Pictures soon.

{The winter dress I made. It’s a deep teal stretch velour and trimmed with silver fold over elastic at neckline and sleeve edges.}

3. Days are short here. I am coping by….. No. Who am I kidding. I hate the darkness this time of year. It’s dark from 3pm to 8.30 am right now and I have very little energy. I am dealing with it by lighting candles all the time and am eating way too many Pebbernødder. And not running at all. There is snow, people, and it’s pitch black most of the time. (Bad excuse. I should just get out there the little time when it’s not dark)! Also darkness makes it difficult getting pictures.

4. On the lighter side, we have a new episode of the podcast out. Do you listen? Is my English (even more) horrible when spoken?

5. New pattern coming out soon. If you liked the Kimono Tee, you are going to love this one! That’s all I’m saying right now:-) Pattern is drafted, graded, instructions written. Just need those photos! Hoping for photo weather this week-end!

FOS (not foes)

Here I am junping out from my slight SADness and back into the life of light and creativety. I have been doing my job and taking care of my shop, my family and little else. I think it’s been worse this year than the other years. Maybe because of my dayjob being very demanding, but not very gratifying at the moment. Maybe because of a lack of snow (until the end of January we hadn’t had any). I don’t know. But here I am feeling better and ready to share my life again.

I have been finishing stuff – and here are some of my FOs:

For Christmas (which you may recall, Dennis and I spend without the kids (who were with their other parents) in Cape Verde) I got an e-book reader. Just like I wished for. I got it before we were leaving and I did have time to sew a cover for it and to add books before the vacation.

{My e-book cover closed}

I made it in some skirt weight linen (which I interfaced heavily) with card board inside, to protect the e-reader. I got some pics of making it, and I’ll show you how this week.

{Here it is open. I added a pocket to the inside.}

I’m reading “Purge” by Finnish author Sofi Oksanen at the moment. It’s a brilliant book!

During my down time I have been crocheting and knitting a bit as well. Here is my finished Poppy shawl:

{Excuse the look at my face. Rasmus shot the pic earlier this week, and I was waiting for him to get one of my mittens....}

And a penguin. Cute, isn’t he?

{At work I have a penguin keychain and penguin pens. I had to make this one when I saw the pattern!}

And some fun colourwork mittens. I loved knitting these!

{Fun to knit - and fast! I really like these mittens. And they match my shawl!}

I have also been sewing some dresses for my friend’s daughter. I don’t have any pictures of them though, as I gave her the dresses before there was enough light to get a decent picture..

Yesterday all the snow melted here and Rasmus and I went for a long walk in the woods. So the parting picture for today is trees drowning in melting water. Spring is on it’s way! Hurrah!

{I didn't mess with the colours. It really looked black and white - and then a splash of green moss..}

Another lovely but very cold day. Unusual for December in Denmark. We usually get our snow in January and February, but now we have had the ground covered since Nov 19.
This is the view from my sewing room window right now!
